“You asked me a couple of weeks ago if I’ve ever had a girlfriend I could share thoughts with intimately?” Mieko asks Kevin.

“Yes, I remember that. You told me that you never found anyone who you trusted that completely,” he said.

“Uh-huh. But I trust you. Completely,” she replied, stirring her wine.

Kevin was a bit confused by the direction of the conversation. “You want me to be your girlfriend?”

Mieko nodded. “Sometimes, when I really need a girlfriend to talk to.”

“But wouldn’t you want to share things with this girlfriend that you would never share with me?”

Mieko smiled and nodded. “Yes, and anything that I tell you as my girlfriend you can never say to my husband. You have to promise that.”

“This’s weird.”

“Maybe, but isn’t it worth a try?”
