Alf Dean Djanyagirnji is an anthropologist who has not forgotten the tribal wisdom of his ancestors. With his nephew, an autistic boy who everyone calls Mouse, explores the wilds of central Australia in search of the mythical Rainbow Serpent, or those that he believes the fossilized remains of a creature of the Cretaceous. Inside a cave decorated with ancient Aboriginal paintings, Alf and the boy discover something far more unexpected: an alien artefact, a bright portal that transports them instantly hundreds of kilometres away, to another cave in the heart of the Australian continent. Alf is stunned, while the mental processes of mouse speed and the boy discovers new unexpected powers.
