2009 Reprint of the 1832 Edition. Naima was the most well known and popular historian of the late 17th century and early 18th centuries of the Ottoman Empire. While giving principal weight in his history to the opinions expressed by the contemporary authorities on whom he relied, Naima added his own critical assessments, and his history represents something of a departure from traditional accounts for this reason. Naima's history remains one of the most cited and authoritative sources for the history of the Ottoman empire in the first six decades of the seventeenth century.
