The room was silent, the only sounds their own breathing and that of a slightly flickering light, and Irene wondered if this was how her career would end, not with a bang but with a whimper. Suddenly Brad’s mouth broke into a wide smile and his powerfully built body relaxed as much as possible while being handcuffed.

“Attractive, smart and with a backbone,” Brad rumbled out, deep voice flavored with slight admiration, and sounding much friendlier than it had previously. “If not for the fact that you work for my scumbag of a brother, I just might say you were the perfect woman, Miss Swanson.”

Irene tried to keep her cool despite the flutter in her heart, a flutter that she had never before felt around any other man in her life. She had never considered herself one who would have a thing for the bad boy, the rebel son, or any variation thereof. But something about Brad kept pulling her in with each minute that passed.
