After her husband announced he wanted a divorce last Christmas, Laney decided she was never EVER celebrating Christmas again! She heads to her aunt’s ranch in Friendly Valley, where she plans to work on ranching projects her aunt has lined up. Laney figures that the sleepy little town is the perfect place to ride out the holidays without being bombarded with an annoying amount of ridiculous Christmas cheer.

Riley Crist hasn’t had an easy life, but his faith and love for his fellow man keeps him in a grateful mood. Christmas is his favorite holiday. He can feel the magic in the air around his beloved hometown of Friendly, and he’s eager to share the joy of the season with everyone—even grumpy folks who come to visit Friendly. When he meets Laney, he can see being grumpy is not her natural state of being. Something has happened to her heart. Even those she’s not terribly nice to him, Riley wants to put a smile on her face. But will she let him get close enough to show her how good life can be?
