Jack Cooper’s a devoted single dad just trying to make it through the morning without burning breakfast. Raising three small children on his own, who can blame him? As a result, his life is all about lists and rules and boundaries. Meanwhile, I’m a shameless free spirit always looking for signs from the universe.

Fine, on the outside our accidental run-in seems like a disaster, but look closer and the moment has life-altering experience written all over it. The way his gaze skates across my face, gentle and questioning. The tired circles under his eyes and the hopeful smile quirking his lips.

He thinks his heart is too fragile to let anyone else in, so he's sworn off dating. His sole focus is getting life back to normal for his three young children. But the way he looks at me—I can't help but wonder if that’s about to change.

The last thing I want is to further complicate his life.

So what if I melt a little every time he smiles? Who cares if I have a thing for dark hair and blue eyes that caress my body when he looks at me?
