He just wanted to blend into the crowd for a change, so he began disguising himself with a beard, glasses, and old Chevy pickup. He even came up with Cole as a name for his alter ego.

Cam loved the ladies and his stardom afforded him the ability to have his pick at the drop of a hat. But he also loved a challenge, and masquerading as Cole meant he'd solely have to rely on his good looks and charm. Luckily, he wasn't lacking in either department.
