The glorious Akk’asharan Empire ended two hundred years ago when the river supplying water to its capital city was treacherously diverted. Since then, the Empire has fragmented, its people left to fall into barbarism or poverty, its great canal system disintegrating, and the Akk’asharans exist in a state of near-slavery. But they have never forgotten their betrayal, and still dream of restoring their glory.

Allandra has more immediate concerns: escaping from justice. She has powerful magical abilities, but has never been able to control them and, after a disastrous outburst of power, she’s on the run. All she wants is a safe haven, where she can grieve and recover. Perhaps the hidden mines in the Asharim Mountains will enable her to rebuild her life.

The mines provide something she’d never expected: a way to control her abilities. And at their heart is a magical weapon which gives her the opportunity to do what no one else has managed: restore the Empire to its former glory. But with enemies on her trail, and powerful factions who will do anything to stop her, she will be tested to her limits.
