For decades her people have been at war with his. His troops have devastated the land and spread destruction from one end of her country to the other. But the land was not the only thing the infamous Black Baron had destroyed. On a dark night of drunken revelry, he had destroyed her innocence.

When his men bring him wounded and near death to the ramshackle hut where she scrapes out a living, Maire Barnes is forced to look into the eyes of a man she considers her enemy. He has been delivered into her hands to either heal or kill. She must decide to listen to her conscience or to the dark whisperings of her heart.

Deklyn Yn Baase had known guilt only once in his life: on the night he debauched an innocent woman. He has spent many long years searching for her, hoping to atone for his sin. Now he has found her but what he sees in her beautiful eyes could very well be death instead of the beginning he hoped it would be.
