A mysterious book entrusted to Sylvia by an even more mysterious stranger makes her birthday wish for an exciting life come true. The book looks plain, but is obviously valued by many, who will do whatever is necessary to claim it—even kill Sylvia. The stranger, Sebastian, comes to her defense, introducing her to a hidden realm, masked by the city Sylvia knows. Possession of the book also awakens her ability to look beyond the surface and she realizes that Sebastian is no hero, given his own dark truth. When Sylvia begins to decipher the enigmatic drawings and coded inscriptions, she learns about the Dark Fae queen’s plan to eliminate all other paranormal creatures, like Sebastian and the others who defend her.
