Caitlin Ober is a young American woman who returns to Japan to teach English in Kagoshima. As a girl of 7 living in Kyoto, Caitlin witnessed a tragedy that continues to haunt her. Now she must unburden herself and learn to trust and to love. Aided by a new friend, the troubled 14-year-old half-Japanese Naomi (who may be a reincarnated spirit), Caitlin makes a difficult journey to exorcise her demons. Taking place in the shadow of a smoking volcano and during a Japanese festival, Caitlin's story is vividly imagined and expertly drawn.
