Synopsis

In 2016, an investigative reporter receives a letter from a Harry Mullaly offering for sale a sensational story of government lies, corruption and deceit in 1966. Scepticism soon gives way to fascination, as Harry chronicles a political scandal to rival Watergate, centring on the World Cup in England fifty years earlier. Firmly rooted in fact and featuring prominent public figures of the period, this intriguing political mystery challenges the received perception of a pivotal time in Britain’s history.

About the Book

FIXING SIXTY SIX is a rare work of ‘faction’: a witty, intelligent and enthralling football-related mystery. It offers a nostalgic read for anyone who fondly remembers the 1966 World Cup (even if they weren’t really there); a tailor-made one for those who enjoyed both Nick Hornby’s “Fever Pitch” and Michael Dobbs’ “House of Cards”; and plenty to fascinate conspiracy theorists or fans of the Swinging Sixties.

About the Author

TIM FLOWER is a former lawyer who has rehabilitated himself as a writer. His first play, Time Bomb, was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2008. The Fringe Review described it as a:

“passionate, eloquently written and serious piece of political theatre”

This is his first novel.

His other relevant claim to fame is that he scored a hat-trick at Wembley Stadium in 1966. Admittedly, he was only ten years old at the time and had sneaked into the stadium with a school friend when the ground staff were having a tea break.

Tim lives with his wife and rescue greyhound in Surrey and the Isle of Wight.
