The Frank Muir Book is both an extraordinary book and unique. It could be described as Frank Muir's personal account of some aspects of England's social history. But it is much more than that. It could be described as an anthology of over a thousand relevant quotations - and yet it is more than that too. The book is based upon the selection of the quotations: they are all abusive, wittily critical, venomous, sullen or in some way represent displeasure. And they are all embedded in the text which means that each chapter is not only a diverting history of its subject but each page is illuminated by quotations from contemporaries speaking out against what was happening at the time.
