P.I. Buck McDivit receives a mysterious object from the dying driver he pulls from a burning pickup truck. He soon learns the black pottery cup is at least a thousand years old, and was created by an artisan from an eastern Oklahoma tribe that no longer exists. He seeks to visit the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Park in eastern Oklahoma for answers, but his employer, Clayton O'Meara has other ideas.
