It's 18th century London, where an Earl loses a vast sum of money to his good friend, a Duke. To settle the debt, the Earl suggests that he marry his fourteen year old daughter to the Duke’s twenty-one year old son. The marriage takes place the next morning. She is terrified, and he is furious. Calling her an ugly dowd, he leaves immediately after the ceremony on the Grand Tour and does not return for four years. When he returns, two adults who have barely met, and don’t even recognize each other must build a marriage. Can these two strong and determined personalities learn to overcome the resentments of the past, and convert the misunderstandings of the present into a passionate love affair on which they can build a life? The novel is based on a true story, that of the Earl of March and Lady Sarah Cadogan. The historical details can be found in my blog at AHeyerLove.com.

This novel is my “Traditional” version of Allegra and Adam’s story. It focuses on character and plot, and falls on the mild end of the sensuality scale. For a spicier and more “Modern” version, you can read London's Latest Rage, which shows the reader more about how the physical and emotional relationship between them evolves. The hottest details of Adam’s life on the Grand Tour, and his relationship with his mistress, as well as Allegra, are told in the "After Dark" version, A Duchess Enraged.
