The Earth was moving. Well, it was always in motion, so perhaps it was more accurate to say that the Earth and the Moon were under the influence of a mysterious acceleration, something that was affecting them and nothing else in the solar system. The acceleration was changing the shape of the orbit in a manner than was going to be hostile to all forms of life on the planet.

A cooperative effort between scientists for all major nations is initiated to search for what might be causing the change. The group looks for both natural phenomena within the solar system, and some form of unnatural influence on the Earth and Moon themselves.

Anthony Symmes, a graduate student in astronomy at Cal Tech, is an assistant to Dr. William Gelon, who is leading the international effort to understanding the mysterious forces acting upon the Earth. In his work, Tony discovers an anomalous magnetic field signature on the back-side of the moon. Despite the limited resources and the fact the back of the Moon is uncharted territory, an expedition sets out to investigate the strange findings. This ultimately leads to the discovery of an alien presence hidden out of view in Fermi Crater well out of view of the Earth. Aliens who almost certainly have to be the cause of the disturbances to the Earth's orbit.

Fearing the power of any race that can actual change the orbits of entire planets, the combined teams search for similar bases hidden on the Earth while they plan just how they might engage the dangerous aliens. A chance discovery in far off Australia provides the key the reveals the alien's Earth based secret facilities.

The question remains whether man's most powerful weapons stand any chance against the might of these alien interlopers, or whether a confrontation will only hasten the end of the human race.
