A reprinting of a series of essays written by Camus originally appearing serially in the 1946 Fall issues of "Combat," a French resistance newspaper published during WWII. In the essays he discusses violence, murder the impact these have on those who perpetrate, suffer or observe. (These essays, orginally written in French, were translated into English by Dwight Macdonald were 1st published in the July-August issue of "Politics." With Mcadonald's permission, they were republished in this volume.)
