When ex-cop, Lewis Kagen, learns his childhood friend has been viciously murdered, his sheer determination to hunt down the killer has him breaking all the rules. But the FBI is more interested in confiscating what Lewis finds, rather than searching for the murderer. The only real piece of evidence doesn't lead Lewis where he thinks it will. Instead he finds himself in the depths of the earth, where he discovers that mankind is not alone and haven't been for centuries.
