A Kind of Hush

The subject of a major film release in 1999, A Kind of Hush is the controversial story of a gang of sexually abused boys who take revenge on their abusers. Stewart leaves home at fourteen when his father's abuse turns life-threatening. Making his way to London's King's Cross he is befriended by runaways Mick, and twins Pete and Den who have suffered similar abuse. Living rough on the streets, they begin a dangerous game: one of them poses as rent-boy while the others lie in wait to execute a brutal beating on the 'client." But when they return to the scenes of their own abuse, their anger spirals out of control and someone gets killed. A Kind of Hush is a shocking account of child abuse and life on the streets, and although it reads like fiction it is in fact rooted in the author's personal experience.
