What would happen to life on Earth if the moon were destroyed?

That's the premise of RUNAWAY MOON, a post-apocalyptic science fiction novel set in Southern California in the year 2029. A rogue dwarf planet narrowly misses Earth but slams into the moon at 50,000 mph causing a massive shockwave and a firestorm of debris that rains down on Earth and sets off a chain reaction of cataclysmic events hastening our sixth mass extinction.

Among the less than two dozen survivors left in America are Alex and Jessa Jacks, their teenage son, Deuce, their German shepherd, Samson, plus nearly two dozen other humans from diverse backgrounds (including an astrophysicist, a teacher, two orphaned sisters, a geology grad student and a casino blackjack dealer) who eventually make their way to one of the largest alpine fresh water sources in North America, Lake Tahoe, California.

There, they try to build a new community despite having lost all of their material possessions and everything else they've ever known in The Crash. They are forced to fight for their basic survival amid ever-threatening Stone Age conditions, rapid, catastrophic climate change and global geologic upheaval.

Who among them will survive in the face of this relentless onslaught of frightening natural disasters, and how?
