'The White Hand and the Black' is a novel concerning a revolt by Zulu tribes to win back their freedom, tired of suffering under the rule of both the Amabuna (Boer) and the Amangisi (English). The "white hand" is Thornhill, a landowner and widower, the "black hand" is Manamandhla, a Zulu. They have personal interactions while the natives become increasingly restless and the white settlers find themselves subjected to a siege.
