Written in 1854, this biography of Admiral Exmouth was painfully researched. Exmounth's eldest brother along with several men who served with the admiral verified all of the incidents related in the book. Exmouth was a British naval officer who fought in the American War of Independence, the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. Exmouth earned his land and title through skill and courage. His leadership qualities were superb. He led an Anglo-Dutch fleet against the Barbary States and was victor of the Bombardment of Algiers in 1816 securing the release of the 1,000 Christian slaves in the city. For this action he was created 1st Viscount Exmouth on 10 December 1816. This is an excellent resource for anyone interested in British naval history.
