John Davys Beresford (1873-1947) was a prolific English writer, best known for his literary criticism of H.G. Wells, as well as early science fiction inspired by Wells. Beresford was afflicted with infantile paralysis, but was able to partially overcome this, becoming a professional writer. In addition to literary criticism and science fiction, he wrote ghost and horror stories. English writer and creator of The Wombles, Elisabeth Beresford (1926-2010), was his daughter.
