Napoleon's son has been kidnapped. *Can Duval and his friends find the boy and his mother before something happens to them?*
Carla Cortini arrives in Paris claiming that her son, Marco, is Napoleon’s child. She had a short affair with the future Emperor in Milan after the battle of Marengo. She approaches the Ministry of Police but finds it difficult to tell her story as she has only a few words of French. Duval, one of the agents, speaks Italian because his grandmother came from Modena. Carla relates the story to Duval and enquiries seem to confirm that it is true. When Duval goes to tell her and bring her to the Emperor, he discovers that the mother and son have vanished. A series of clues lead Duval with his friends, Lefebvre and Fournier, in and out of the palaces of the Tuileries, Malmaison and Saint-Cloud. The chase continues in a brothel, one of the bathing boats and to a hovel on the banks of the river Seine. Several conspirators are involved, but who was the organiser of the plot?
