Matt Blakefield thinks he has avoided the Blakefield curse for all these many years. Until he meets Cassie Moore, a cardiologist and learns she is the girl he insulted when they were in high school. She has changed from the ugly duckling into a swan but that's not all. He's felt guilty for years about his treatment of her and feels he must make it up to her. He does and she is so responsible he can't believe his luck. Though on one hand he wants to flee on the other he wants to be with her for , maybe not forever, but for a few months. Then she learns she is the heiress to a property he wants and he has known this but hasn't told her. Victim of a recently broken engagement when her fiance marries another woman Cassie tells him to leave. This brings the realization to Matt that he's fallen in love and wants to marry Cassie. He must do some fast changing and some heavy persuasion to make her believe in him.
