This is a controversial work, in which Houdini expresses his disappointment at his one-time idol Robert-Houdin, who in the author's opinion was shown to be a "a mere pretender...his predecessor's". No doubt, Houdini was quite sincere in his disappointment, and probably quite diligient in his research; despite that, what appears to emerge is a rather extreme viewpoint. One needs to go elsewhere for a more objective opinion. Nevertheless, a very important work and much sought after book by Harry Houdini.
