Eliza was not what you would call adventurous. Though never quite fitting in with Boston high society, Eliza nonetheless resigned herself to a loveless fate, believing she would help her pastor father until officially becoming a spinster. But, when her pastor father is called to preach the word of God to the Indians in the wild west, Eliza jumps at the opportunity to change her fate. Praying to become someone different, Eliza finds new strength, courage and a sense of purpose she never knew she had. When Eliza meets Amitola, she is overcome with the first stirrings of desires she had long since given up hope of feeling. But prejudices run deep and old habits die hard. A Sioux Indian, Amitola, continually struggles to balance his burgeoning friendships with the “white man” with his tribes’ growing mistrust. When Amitola meets Eliza, the pastor’s daughter, he is immediately smitten by her loving and kind nature. But to love a white woman would only weaken the fragile peace between the white man and the Sioux Indian. When Amitola’s tribe member, Matoskah, kidnaps Eliza in an attempt to secure the Tribal Chief position, Amitola risks everything to get her back.
