Stabbed, and covered in blood, a young woman dies in the arms of Father O'Connor. Then, Sally Ferguson and her playmate, Liam Findley, go missing. When Liam's body is discovered on farmland, the police go looking for Percy Grimes. They find Percy's mutilated body, and a strange white rose. For DCI Fletcher and his team, this is the start in a series of murders. As the bodies pile up in the mortuary, he enlists the help of American, Scott Holden, a Criminal Profiler. Scott, knows the rose is the signature of a serial killer. Somewhere, out there, a vigilante, is... hunting! A masterpiece of a suspense thriller from beginning to end, "The Devil Came To Abbeville" showcases an impressive writing talent that was first debuted with author Marian Phair's first novel, "Shattered Lives" (9781908447913, PB $16.99, Kindle $7.99, 308pp). Very highly recommended for personal reading lists and community library Mystery/Suspense collections, it should be noted that "The Devil Came To Abbeville" is also available in a Kindle edition ($6.99). 5* rating. James A. Cox, Editor-in-Chief, Midwest Book Review. The Devil came to Abbeville by Marian Phair is a horror story to end all horror stories. The story opens with a 17-year-old girl, smothered in blood, dying in the arms of Father O'Connor but there are few clues. Then Sally, a girl blinded in an accident, and her friend Liam go on a picnic and go missing. Sally is found alive but Liam is dead and the perpetrator is Percy Grimes, also found dead with a white rose on his body. The bodies begin to pile up and DCI Fletcher has his work cut out trying to track down a vicious vigilante. An ex-profiler from the USA, Scott Holden, is on holiday and he is enlisted to help find out who is behind the murders. Will they find out who is responsible before any more murders occur or will the death toll continue to rise? The Devil Came to Abbeville by Marian Phair was an excellent book. I did have my suspicions as to who the murderer was about half way through the book, but even so I wasn t certain until right at the very end. It kept me hooked right from the opening sentence and I couldn t let go until I had read it all the way through. Excellent book, well thought out plot, great story line and great characters. Ms Phair has a real winner on her hands with this one just be prepared for a bit of to-ing and fro-ing in the story line but it s all worth it at the end! - 5* rating.
