London Lies

Being called Emma Woodhouse in the 21st-century London, victim of an Austenian obsession of an all-too-romantic mother, hasn’t made the life of a young consultant of a renowned company in the City very easy. She goes from one disastrous romance to another, until she meets David, who turns out to be a charming colleague from the New York office.

The chemistry with David doesn’t go unnoticed to the tyrannical Rebekka, just arrived from Germany to work in the same project. Rebekka excludes Emma from all important meetings and doesn’t miss an opportunity to put her in a bad light in front of her superiors. Put under strain, Emma elaborates a clunky plan to neutralize Rebekka that will have unexpected implications.

London Lies is a contemporary comedy in which the working life of a young Londoner, struggling in a highly competitive environment, is strongly intertwined with her sentimental life, caught between two very different men.

The result is a humorous and entertaining novel, full of misunderstandings and peculiar characters but, at the same time, it also makes us ponder on the ruthlessness of today’s fast-paced business world.

La collega esclude Emma da tutte le riunioni importanti e non perde occasione per metterla in cattiva luce di fronte ai suoi superiori. Messa alle strette, Emma elabora un maldestro piano di neutralizzazione che avrà risvolti imprevisti.

"London Lies" è una commedia attuale in cui la vita lavorativa di una giovane londinese, alle prese con un ambiente altamente competitivo, si intreccia con quella sentimentale, in bilico tra due uomini molto diversi tra loro. Ne nasce un romanzo umoristico e divertente, ricco di equivoci e di personaggi caratteristici - dalla strampalata cugina Rose alla bisbetica zia Hortentia, dal petulante dottor Bromer alla finta colf peruviana - ma che al tempo stesso ci fa riflettere sulla spietatezza del mondo del lavoro ai giorni nostri.
