BOOK 3 of the Halcyon Trilogy
Al-Jami'e, the first interstellar ship created by humans, has returned to Earth as something other than what was sent. The Demiurge. A living organism whose sole purpose is to devour all of the matter in the solar system in order to make a conduit by which the sentient stars can communicate with each other.
It cannot be stopped, but there may be some hope. Coto, a human liaison from the synthetic race of Neosapiens created by humanity hundreds of years earlier, has returned. Coto's sole purpose is to make an offer to transfer the consciousness of every living person on the planet into their architecture, before their matter is absorbed into Al-Jami'e.
Unfortunately, there are some sections of humanity that don't like either option, and will do anything to make sure they don't happen.
