Sophie Mitchell, sports therapist and dating failure, has given up on finding love and marriage in her Texas city of San Antonio. The perfect man doesn't exist and she's tired of working so hard to find him only to find another going-nowhere relationship instead. So she doesn't hesitate when her brother's frantic phone call moves her across the country to be a nanny to her nephew.

James Anderson, pediatric heart surgeon, keeps his heart under lock and key, focusing solely on the tiny patients lives he saves. He's convinced himself that he's content with and dedicated to the life he has chosen because opening his heart to someone new is overrated and painful. He ought to know. He's tried. And failed. Besides, coming home to the apartment he shares with his overbearing cousin, Andy, is familiar and safe, if not utterly lonely, unfulfilling, and boring.

But one glimpse of Sophie and her angelic voice has him playing tug-of-war with his long buried unwelcome and traitorous feelings. He closes his heart off even tighter at what feels like love at first sight and on his assumption that Sophie and her brother aren't siblings but husband and wife. Besides, love at first sight doesn't exist and definitely not with a married woman. Against his will, however, Sophie softens his heart with her zany trivia and selfless ways until he's willing to take a chance on love again.

Set in scenic Oregon, this story is sure to have you laughing, crying, and sighing at the ups and downs of relationships, regrets of the past, and hopes for the future. After all, real life is complicated. Especially when it comes to matters of the heart.
