• Gustave Aimard’s three-volume series is bound together in this Kindle edition, giving readers a thrilling historical account of the liberation of Texas from the Mexicans, a memorable episode in American history.

The Border Rifles, A Tale of the Texan War (1861)

In admirable detail, Aimard’s first volume in the series offers a historical account of the combatants who – despite their Northern nickname “Border ruffians” form the core of the confederated army.

The Freebooters (1861)

The second instalment, entitled “The Freebooters,” describes the insurrection which eventually transformed into a full-blown revolution. Aimard offers a historical record of the last great contest in which the North Americans were engaged.

The White Scalper (1861)

The third and last volume in the trilogy, “The White Scalper”, traces the establishment of the State of Texas. It is an elaborate account of the liberation of Texas and the notable battle of San Jacinto, along with personal adventure stories of the extraordinary, larger-than-life characters who aided in the liberation.
