French writer Gustave Aimard was born in 1818 in Paris and served in the French Navy before travelling to America. He returned to Paris in 1847.

Wraxall, Sir Frederic Charles Lascelles, third baronet (1828-1865), was born in Boulogne, France in 1828, the eldest son of Charles Edward Wraxall, a lieutenant in the Royal Artillery, and Ellen Cecilia.
