After a failed military experiment, pale-skinned creatures called Crawlers have destroyed everything except for three cities. Each is protected by a Sentinel, the successful subjects of the same disastrous experiment. Johnny Q is the strongest of these, and under his protection, Midhaven is safe.

Now that the Crawlers have disappeared, Johnny has taken to chasing common criminals, and the collateral damage is adding up. One student named Kleiner came up with a solution. Armed with a variety of homemade tools and a clunky jetpack named Shania, Kleiner is employed by the city to follow Johnny and keep him from breaking stuff or file the proper report when he does. Luckily, he can file them with Sarah, a beautiful and spunky girl who used to be one of the best agents in the city before her demotion. This will be his life for the next year.

The Crawlers return, but this time they're being controlled by someone. Johnny can't handle it by himself, and Kleiner might be the only one who can help.
