The idea has never been fully resolved that the young United States, under the concept of Manifest Destiny, stole 50% of the land mass of Mexico in the 1800's.

One one side it is true that all the lands gained from Mexico came as the results of wars; the Texas Independence andd ultimate annexation into the United States, and the First Mexican-American War.

At the time of the First Mexican-American War, Mexico was weak from several conflicts internally, and with France. It has also been accussed that the United States goaded Mexico into a war it had no chance to win so it could expand its land mass 'from sea to shining sea'.

In today's world few would argue with the fact that Mexico is in no position to win a current war with the United States, but with the element of surprise, a trip through a parallel world, and a very powerful ally, anything could be possible.
