The house spoke to her, no, not really, she wasn’t crazy, but for years, as Lauren walked past the abandoned Queen Anne, she ignored its disintegrating columns and peeling paint, instead, she envisioned the lives lived within its walls and evoked images of finely dressed women gathered in front of the tower windows. Lauren mused how restoring the house would, in turn, restore hers and Jeff’s marriage. Offer made and accepted, and Lauren peels away the layers of mildew and mold, as the story, actually stories, of House Wrecking begin to unfold.

Built in 1890 by Charles Marvin for his young bride Sarah, House Wrecking is also Sarah’s story; a story of a young woman whose tenacity and intellect conflict with the sexual abuse inflicted by her father. As she becomes a wife and mother, the far -reaching effects of her early childhood trauma are revealed. In Sarah’s attempts to save herself from spiraling psychological demise, she and Charles construct secret spaces in their new home where they are able to preserve themselves – spaces that hold their tragic family secrets until the 21st Century, when Lauren is handed the key.
