She penetrates to Mashonaland where her bravery is grimly taxed in the presence of tragedy brought about by an uprising among the savage Matabele warriors. She learns of life; she learns the treachery of love; she learns what the spirit of hope can do for a submerged community.

A sometimes and marginally supernatural novel, but one of her more popular books perhaps because of the daring content.
