Charis inherits her beautiful historic home, Meadow Lea Hall, when her mother dies in childbirth. Orphaned at an early age she has a lonely and unhappy childhood, abused and banished to boarding school. Her only happiness is when she’s invited to spend time at the home of a friend; a home filled with love and laughter; the kind of home and family Charis can only dream of.

Despite all odds she becomes a clever and talented young woman. Accepted to study at Oxford, she has the promise of a great future. But just as things start to look up for her, it is snatched away when she has to take care of a dying relative, the wicked woman who made her childhood miserable. Still, Charis dreams of finding someone to love, to share her life with…a family and a home of her own.
