‘I’m having bad dreams Hen. I dreamt I was in a white dome-shaped room levitating on a table,’ Amanda said.

‘I had the same dream. So did Mom. So did Jo. Everyone did. Ask around. You do the math,’ I replied. Her face paled. She started shaking. ‘But I know what they’re scared of.’ I held up the pendant. ‘Maybe it’s an evil pendant? It’s evil, so the previous owner threw it away. Perhaps I should too?’

‘I don’t think so,’ Jo whispered back. ‘It’s not evil. Only people are evil.’

Martin Dunbar certainly was evil, and the CIB detectives knew it.

Randy White squeezed the rifle trigger; the impact propelled me to the ground.

‘Huh? You shot me?’ A puddle of blood oozed over the golden yellow sand.

‘Teresa? Is that you?’ I asked the girl in the glowing ball of light. ‘I think I’m dead.’

‘Use the pendant,’ Sam replied. ‘Are you stupid or what? Use the pendant!’

‘We’ll get you while you’re sleeping,’ a figure growled from the bushes.

‘Not in my lifetime,’ I hissed back. ‘The pendant will kill you! And—, if it doesn’t. I will!’ Our eyes latched onto it. Amanda clutched at me. The pendant glowed, thrashing out reams of light.
