When Lisa Atwood goes to visit a friend of her mother's and her daughter, Marguerite, in a nearby town, Lisa doesn't expect to have a good time. But both girls ride, and soon they're on their mounts and things are looking up. Then Marguerite takes off on her own, leaving Lisa on a strange trail. Then the old, sweet-natured mare stumbles and Lisa is thrown. She can't ride or walk.
