Set in 1879 at Ft. Robinson, Nebraska
The Northern Cheyenne have walked for six months to escape the reservation in the Indian Nation. Pursued by soldiers, the small group is finally captured and imprisoned at the Fort. On a cold January night they break out.
Stone Heart, the son of a Cheyenne woman and George Armstrong Custer, is badly wounded in the battle that ensues, and makes his way to a soddy on the plains.
Aiden Conner is run out of the small town nearby where she was abandoned by her fiance. She finds the soddy and is greeted by a blonde haired Indian who threatens to gut her.
To survive they must work together, and they soon find a fierce love and a desire to help his people go home to the land of the yellow stone.
