Sarah's Choice

Sarah Wilton can't resist the offer of marriage made by Edward Stone, the Earl of Sheringham, a man old enough to be her father. Her first instinct is to say NO, but then the earl explains that the marriage offer doesn't come from him, but from his son. She thinks it rather odd that the son didn't make the offer himself, but she has never met the ear's son. What is wrong with him?

The money the earl offers will solve many of her family's problems. Chief among them, the earl offers to dower her younger sister. In addition, the funds will pay all her family's debts accrued by her grandfather and uncle. Perhaps the greatest incentive of all is that this marriage will save Jamie Stone's life. Sarah is willing to sacrifice herself for her family. Will it be such a sacrifice? This might be her only chance to have a home and family of her own.

Sarah isn't sure she is making the right decision. She realizes she made the right choice when her father opens the church doors and she sees her bridegroom waiting for her at the altar. Jamie Stone is mentally impaired and has an occasional seizure when he is stressed. He knows he is not like other men. Jamie's tutor calls him an idiot often enough. He had to learn to walk and talk all over again after a riding accident which almost took his life as a very young child. Jamie never dreamed he could have anything close to a normal life -- until Sarah. It was like they shared one soul.

Richard Stone, Jamie's half-uncle, wants the earl to lock his nephew away in an insane asylum. The earl knows his son will die if he is locked away. Edward Stone fears his brother will do just that if anything were to happen to him. Richard wants the title and would do anything to get it. The earl came up with this marriage scheme in the hopes this marriage to Sarah will protect his son.
