Ravaged by storms the coastal towns of Kaarth have to look for safety. Many in Morace Roccan's village have already fled to the Citadel. Pa tells his youngest son that he must take their family away from death. With his twin sister Lorett, Morace finds their lives turned completely upside down in one night. Drastic events cause Morace to make a decision that Lorett would out right refuse. On the elven world of the Everglade, where weather magic is banned, a daring and dangerous young Elf, Lazon Delafrey has been working on something. Weather magic. He cannot wait to show his friend Shanrea. When he does, Shanrea is horrified at what she sees and asks Lazon to stop. Lazon throws out his childhood friend to continue his work. When Lazon loses control, Shanrea is the only one who can help him. Faced with a million and one decisions to make all four have to fight to save their worlds from destruction. They are sent on a path of adventure, mystery and self-discovery, while stubborn leaders point the finger of blame, which could lead to a war of the races.
