Darcy's daughter, Emily, falls in love with Thomas, a poor, struggling artist, but is persuaded by her parents to marry the aging Lord Dalrymple. After all, he has a title, Earl of Morpeth, and a mansion, Crookhill Abbey, that is even more extensive than Pemberley. At the same time, Darcy’s other daughter, Catherine, falls in love with George, an unsuccessful lawyer and would-be poet. When Emily gets to Northumberland, she finds that she has been duped, because Lord Dalrymple has no money, and Crookhill Abbey is little better than a crumbling mausoleum. Catherine, determined to avoid a similar fate, elopes with George, much to Darcy’s consternation. The characters are from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice and Northanger Abbey, and Anne Radcliffe's Udolpho, and the style is influenced by Jane Austen's Northanger Abbey and other 'gothick' novels of the period. This is the second edition. The first edition was entitled "Darcy's Daughters".
