“Patryck,” she whispered.

His large, bright blue dragon eye stared up at her. She could swear he smiled. He turned his snout to nuzzle low in her belly. She giggled. His whiskers tickled. Even though his scales were sharp, he managed not to scrape her. In fact, he was soft. He was water and he caressed her just as gently as the morning mist.

“I am glad you are feeling better,” she said. The only response from the dragon was more nuzzling. She laughed as he pressed his snout all over her chest. He was happy to see her and she was very happy to see him alive and playful.

Tania wished to speak to him, but it would be a one-sided conversation so she merely smiled and continued stroking his long neck. Her fingers flowed over him just as water would flow over her hand. It was an odd sensation to pet liquid but the gesture was heart-warming.

She couldn’t contain her excitement, “I was worried. I was scared I had lost you.”

The dragon jerked his head back and managed to raise a scaly eyebrow. Even in dragon form, Tania could see his human gestures. She knew there was a man underneath all that monster. She had always known Patryck was more than just a dragon—he was a lost soul who needed to be loved.
