Or were they?

Review from eBook Reviews Weekly:

"Sapiosaurus" by Lon McQuillin

Publisher: Dunluce Press

Genre: Speculative Fiction

"Charley, I just got some spectrographic data from a

guy from Berkeley who's drilling core samples in

Antarctica. It's the damnedest thing I've ever seen."

The "guy from Berkeley," geologist Hal Reynolds, is

about to make the most remarkable discovery any

scientist could hope for. Deep beneath the ice of

Antarctica lies something that may prove far more

valuable to humanity than new oil reserves ever could.

Just WHAT is down there, the book's title already

tells us – but don't make the mistake of thinking that

it gives the story away. There are plenty of

surprises awaiting the speculative fiction reader in

this one.

SAPIOSAURUS does a wonderful job of world-building

without ever leaving our own planet, as its author

gradually reveals what/who lies buried on a continent

that 65 million years ago was a tropical paradise

instead of a deep freeze. The tale of how this

happened is bound to intrigue veteran sci-fi fans, and

it ought to hook readers dipping into the genre for

the first time, too (think "Jurassic Park" for its

quality of mass market appeal). It is plausible

enough to be frightening, and sufficiently well

conceived so that lovers of "hard" SF (of whom I'm

one) will be hard put to find an error.

The author's approach to characterization reminds me

of James P. Hogan, in that each newcomer is sketched

out colorfully and memorably through dialog and

behavior...It's a book that will keep you up until you finish

it and then you'll hope for a sequel.

I certainly do!
