Legendary prince Rama of Kośala marries Sita, the daughter of Mother Earth. As the seventh avatar of the Hindu god Vishnu, Rama embodies virtue and goodness. When an evil demon kidnaps Sita, he goes to war to win her back, only to question her faithfulness. In the end, Sita's mother takes her from Rama and brings her to the land of the gods.

Rama's father, King Dasa-ratha, wants him to take the throne, but has already promised it to another one of his sons. Rama is exiled from his kingdom for fourteen years.

In exile, Rama and Sita are plagued by a demon-maiden and her brother, Ravan, a demon king. When Rama goes hunting, Ravan kidnaps Sita.

After defeating the demons and getting Sita back, Rama suspects that she hasn't been true to him. He sends her away to quell the gossip about her. In the end, Sita's mother rises up to speak on Sita's behalf, then takes her away from her suspicious husband forever.
