Candy is a young medical student who is manipulated into becoming an unwilling participant in a snuff game run by the Rubiconeteka, eight Dark Gods and Goddesses, a political alliance of New World Deities, who feast upon the souls of failed contestants :The prize: the return of her soul. She must take twenty one lives in order to fully reclaim her soul, earning a gram for each murder she commits. She finds however that there are other prices to pay in the bargain, not least her confinement in a mental institution. Candy degenerates from a kind natured healer into a drug abusing serial killer who begins to crave both the murder she commits and the narcotic apathy she gets from her 'psycho candy', the drugs which help her kill, as she finds herself disintegrating into madness: forced to commit actions and witness events which are far beyond her scope of reason. As new friends appear on the horizon, the green eyed girl Faith and Jan, her mother from another Dimension, Marcus the lycanthrope and John the sorcerer, as well as others, it appears Candy has allies amidst her fight. However. as the fast paced twisting plot unwinds, it becomes clearer that Candy is a pawn both political and personal as the suggestion of betrayal by those closest to her begins to make itself known; as the story moves towards its tragic and terrifying conclusion. Filled with a tight plot and pages of terrifying ordeals, drug fulled killings and sexual encounters with a twist this is at once a horror, a fantasy, a detective novel and a love story, this is horror for a new age; drawing from the lore of H.P Lovecraft and others this book attempts and succeeds in bringing horror into the 21st Century. The book touches on issues such as loss of innocence and the conditioning we are all placed under and what happens when we have to throw that away to survive - especially when we are so far out of our element.
