No Going Back is the sixth book in A Dangerous Universe Series that examines what it means to live in a dangerous universe. Each of the books are independent of each other and are standalone stories. This newest book from Saxon Andrew tells the tale of a warrior who is marooned in a different universe, and he learns he can never return to the universe he grew up in. Everything and everyone he knew is gone forever from his life and he quickly discovers this new universe is filled with aggressive civilizations.
Commander Kip now must find a way to live and survive in an unknown landscape but he's not without tools to do it. The warship he's commanding is light years more advanced than anything in this new universe he's entered and nothing can stand up to it. Will it be enough for him to survive?
Excerpt : No Going Back
“What are you going to do?”
“Defend ourselves. If they attack us, then we’ll stop the attack.”
“This is not our fight, Kip.”
“It is if they attack us. Besides, I’ve never liked species that destroy planets. Tell them we have no wish to harm them, but we will defend ourselves.”
“I’ve sent the message, and they are not responding.”
“Then this is on them, Computer. Perhaps they’ll ignore us and go after that Rock’s fleet.” Kip sat back and sighed. After a moment he said, “Is every universe dangerous?”
“I have no way of knowing,” the computer answered. “However, being confronted by multiple fleets of warships as soon as we showed up does indicate this is an extremely Dangerous Universe. Of course, this is a small sample we've observed so far but the history of our universe from the young age of this universe was very dangerous. It’s only in the last million years that we’ve been able to remove most of the aggressors. The Vermel were the most dangerous species remaining and they should be defeated soon.”
Kip mused, “This species coming toward us is far worse than the Vermel. The Vermel at least enslaved their conquests without destroying and eating them.”
“There are some species in our history that were just as bad,” the computer replied.
“And they were the first to go,” Kip retorted.
“That’s true but they have a right to exist just as all species do.”
“That right doesn’t extend to removing other species, Computer.”
“And we learned that lesson later in our history, but this universe is not ours.”
“Are we stuck here Computer?”
“Well….. yes.”
“I took a Warrior’s Oath to make the universe a better and safer place to live.”
“But that oath was made for our universe!”
“The oath didn’t say our universe, Computer. If this is now our universe, then I think my oath applies. However, we will discuss this later and for the moment, I’ll leave that fleet of incoming warships alone if they don’t attack our ship.”
“I can tell you now, they are going to attack us,” the computer remarked.
“Then this is on them if they do."
The action starts on the first page and doesn't slow down. This story is a page turner and hard to put down. So, sit back, relax, and jump into a Dangerous Universe.
