A nationally-syndicated newspaper columnist, she wasn't the type to commit suicide. Yet there was the empty bottle beside her, and the autopsy showed barbiturate traces in the throat, barbiturate in the stomach.

But it showed something else, something that added to the suspicions of Lieutenant Frank Sessions of the Homicide Squad; suspicions that all was not as it seemed, and that several people were lying.
