Heliodas-purported to be the son of Zeus and a madwoman-desires to be no more than a soldier, a good one; to stand between Athens and the wrath of mighty Persia. Risking death and displeasure both mortal and divine, Heliodos journeys far to defuse the threat of war or fight it. Destiny is seldom simple, and neither is this path. Battles and intrigue and the fickle interference of the gods set him on a divine quest: to retrieve the sword of Zeus and thus become the hero of Athens. Again, what is a common soldier to do?
